Ian Moffat (Lead Trombone)

Born in London in 1964, Ian Moffat read music at London University gaining a B.Mus.(hons) degree and an A.R.C.M.(hons) performance diploma from the Royal College of Music. A year of post graduate study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London led to invitations to work with many of the United Kingdom’s finest orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Royal Ballet Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Oxford Philomusica, the Britten Sinfonia and the BBC Symphony Orchestra.

In addition to his work in the UK Ian has toured extensively in America, Europe and the Far East with both British and European Orchestras. In 1992 he took his own orchestra to Hong Kong for a performance at the Hong Kong AIDS foundation ball.

He has played “comedy trombone” for a series of TV dog food adverts, made Big Band broadcasts for both radio and TV, and is featured on numerous Big Band albums, Motion Picture soundtracks and major recordings of Symphonic Repertoire.
