Darren Smith – Bass Trombone

Darren was born in Stockton-on-Tees. After spending twelve years as Bass Trombonist of the Band of the Grenadier Guards, Darren went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music under Robert Hughes.

 For the past two years Darren has been busy working in a freelance capacity in London and the UK. He has performed in various West End shows including; The Lion King, Phantom of the Opera, Rat Pack and Ray Charles whilst his orchestral career has included engagements with orchestras such as the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and broadcasts and Promenade concerts with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Darren also regularly performs with the London Concert Orchestra, London Chamber Orchestra, and Oxford Philomusica, and recently toured Germany with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields.

Darren enjoys working with various jazz and big bands including the London Jazz Orchestra and BBC Big Band and he is currently Bass Trombonist of the Syd Lawrence Orchestra.
