Andre Messeder - Double Bass

Andre Messeder was born in London but moved to Jersey as a child. He began playing the Guitar then moved on to Double Bass after becoming hooked on his father’s records of Ray Brown. His earliest work was with his pianist/bandleader father doing summer seasons and playing lunchtime gigs at the local Jazz club, a favourite haunt for many famous jazz musicians including Tubby Hayes, Harold McNair and Stan Tracey.

Andre moved back to London in 1970 and joined “Geraldo’s Navy” for various world cruises - including the maiden voyage of the QE2. He has toured the world entertaining the troops, performing with artists such as Harry Secombe, Vera Lynn, Frankie Howerd, Jim Davidson and Frankie Vaughan.

Broadcast work has included appearances on BBC TV’s Pebble Mill at One show playing with American artists Brook Benton, Nancy Wilson, Kay Star and Buddy Greco, as well as numerous sessions with the BBC Radio Orchestra.

Andre toured for several years with  Roger Whittaker  and has also undertaken extensive tours with Dean Martin, Bruce Forsythe, Shirley Bassey, Buddy Greco,Vic Damone and the great Jack Jones

From 1973 - 1975 Andre was a member of the great Ray Ellington Quartet at the White Elephant on the river. He then played for several years with the Glen Miller Orchestra (UK) before leaving to join the Syd Lawrence Orchestra in 1996.
