Alo sax, Flute, Piccolo and Clarinet with the Syd Lawrence Orchestra

Adrian Wilkinson was introduced to Big Band music at the age of nine when he heard his father’s Syd Lawrence LP ‘Swing ‘76’. He went on to study Jazz and Contemporary Music at the City of Leeds College of Music and gained an M.A (Composition) from Huddersfield University. He has played with many Big Bands, Dance Bands and Jazz Bands including Bricktop’s Jazz Babes, Andy Prior, Matt Monro Junior, The Rat Pack, Stephen Triffit, the Glenn Miller Orchestra UK plus five summer seasons in Blackpool at the Tower Ballroom and the North Pier. Whilst playing with Bricktop’s Jazz Babes in 1993 he was made an Honorary Citizen of New Orleans! In addition he has played clarinet and saxophone on many film sound tracks, and has also appeared as a film extra.

 

Adrian first played with the Syd Lawrence Orchestra in August 2006 but joined full time in June 2007. In addition to playing the tenor saxophone, Adrian plays the clarinet, alto sax, bass clarinet and flute. Born in Lancashire, he currently lives in that County with his wife Emma and their three children Thomas, Oliver, and Alexander.
